Jammu: Curfew remained in clashes-hit Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on the second consecutive day today.
"Though no fresh clashes or violence was reported so far in the district, but curfew remained enforced for the second day also as preventive measure," a police spokesperson here said.
He said, ''situation is quite normal and under control.'' Police said that mobile internet service has also been snapped in the region to prevent trouble-mongers from spreading any rumours and circulating photos and videos on social media.
Arrest of three clerics for their alleged involvement in instigating people to raise anti-India and 'pro-freedom' slogans led to clashes yesterday in the district following which curfew was clamped. The names of over dozen persons was surfaced in cases of sedition for allegedly raising anti-India and 'pro-freedom' slogans during protests on Eid-ul-Adha against the killings of civilians in Kashmir recently.
Police said that cleric Abdul Qayoom Matoo, Saif Ud Din Bagwan and Firdous Ahmad Bagwan were taken into custody during midnight raids following which some people took to streets. Police resorted to lathi-charge and teargas shelling to disperse the protesters and later the curfew was imposed in the town.
