SRINAGAR: In a fresh arrest spree, police have detained many members of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) from different parts of Valley on Friday, TeH said in a statement.
A senior TeH member Ghulam Mohammad Tantray was arrested from his Behrampora Sopore residence today.
“Tantray’s two sons have been already booked under Public Safety Act and are lodged in a jail outside Kashmir,” the statement said. In another incident, TeH’s Sopore Tehsil president Mohammad Shaban Khan was arrested and lodged in a police lockup in Sopore, the statement said. “Khan’s son already stands arrested under PSA.”
TeH said that many of its members were detained from parts of Kashmir in different police raids. After congregational Friday prayers ended, TeH’s Bandipora secretary Muhammad Yousuf Sofi alias Salman was arrested by police triggering clashes.
Notably, police have intensified their crackdown against dissenters across valley. Several persons have already been booked under lawless law PSA and lodged at Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal jail. Among the detainees is Kashmir’s prominent human rights defender, Khurram Parvez.
