SRINAGAR:APHC-m Wednesday strongly condemned the extension in the illegal detention of its Chairperson, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq, continuous house arrest of veteran resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani, and deployment of CRPF outside Geelani’s house, shifting of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Muhammad Yasin Malik to JIC Humhama, slapping of the infamous PSA on noted human rights activist Khurram Parvez arrests and house arrests of other resistance leaders, workers and youth and termed these arbitrary measures as “totalitarian and dictatorial which reflect the arrogance” of the ruling regime.
Welcoming the statement of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the occasion of the UN General Assembly in New York, in which it has asked India to stop the oppression and human rights violations in Kashmir and resolve Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and as per the wishes and aspirations of Kashmiris, the spokesperson said, “not only the Islamic countries but also Britain, France, Germany, China, Italy and various other European countries have been calling upon India to stop killings in Jammu Kashmir and put an immediate end to human rights violations.”
“These countries have also urged India to save the entire region from death and destruction by resolving the long-pending Kashmir issue through meaningful and result-oriented dialogue process,” the APHC-m spokesperson said.
The APHC-m spokesperson also welcomed the statement of the Government of Turkey which announced to send its fact finding mission to Kashmir to assess the deteriorating situation, killings and human rights violations in the Valley, as it chairs the human rights commission of the OIC.
Expressing satisfaction over massive public demonstrations and marches by people in every nook and corner of Kashmir despite curfew, restrictions and curbs for the last 75 days continuous days, the spokesperson condemned the beating up of people in Kupwara, Pulwama, Sopore, Shopian, Kulgam, Ganderbal, Shehr-e-Khaas area of Srinagar, Nalamar Road and Sheraz Chowk and pellet firing and shelling in Hajin in which a youth Aquib Ahmad Wani was critically injured.
APHC-m thanked the people of Banihal and Kishtwar for their continuous support and involvement in the current phase of the freedom struggle and said it is a befitting reply to India’s “deliberate and misleading” narrative that the freedom movement is limited to the valley.
