Geelani’s Son Questioned Over Unrest ‘Role’
Srinagar: Police on Wednesday questioned senior Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s son for his alleged role in the present unrest while crackdown on stone-pelters continued in the Kashmir valley, where 92 persons, mostly youths and minors have lost their lives in security force action since July 9.
Official sources said that Dr Naeem Geelani, elder son of Geelani was questioned by police several times during the past two days for his alleged role in the present unrest as despite ban on internet, including Broadband for several days from September 12, separatists issued protest calendars for strike and daily statements regularly.
A Hurriyat spokesman said that Dr Naeem was being repeatedly questioned and mentally tortured for the last couple of days in police stations by the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police at Cargo.
In the last week of August, Dr Naeem was summoned by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with alleged funds being provided to separatists. Though Dr Naeem went to local office of NIA but he was not questioned as senior officers had left for New Delhi.
A police spokesman said during the past 24 hours, police arrested 64 people involved in disturbing the situation by damaging civilian vehicles, stopping vehicular traffic and harassing people by placing obstructions on roads.
