Srinagar: The Kashmir Valley remained shut for the 74th consecutive day on Tuesday with authorities deploying security forces in Srinagar and other districts to maintain law and order.
According to officials the curfew was lifted across Kashmir, except from six police station areas of Srinagar, in view of the ‘improving’ situation.
Curfew remained in force in five police station areas of downtown and Harwan in Srinagar, while the curbs had been lifted from elsewhere in the Valley, a police official said.
He said curfew was clamped in Harwan Police Station areas on Tuesday in view of the fourth day of mourning of a 13 years old boy Nasir Shafi Qazi killed in government forces' action on Friday. He, however, said that restrictions on the assembly of people under Section 144 CrPc remained in force in the Valley.
The separatist leadership had asked people to observe Tuesday as Women's Day.
Shops, business establishments and petrol pumps continued to remain shut, while public transport didn’t ply on the roads. Schools, colleges and other educational institutions also continued to remain shut.
As many as 89 people including two cops have been killed in the unrest that broke out a day after Hizbul Mujahideen poster boy Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces in South Kashmir on July 8.
A youth was injured after government forces fired at protesters in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday.
The youth was identified as Aqib Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani, resident of Hajin. However, some reports identified him as Ishfaq Ahmad Wani.
Ahmad was shifted to Primary Health Centre Hajin where from he was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
Clashes broke out between protesters and forces in Hajin town at New Bridge. Huge deployment of army had been made in Hajin. Clashes were also reported from Apple town Sopore.
According to a spokesman of Zonal Police Headquarters, Kashmir, situation in the valley remained under control today. There was no curfew in the valley except the areas under few police stations in Srinagar.
The spokesman said that increased movement of people and vehicular traffic was observed across the valley during the day.
The spokesman said that during the past 24 hours, in its efforts to curb the activities of miscreants/ hooligans, police arrested 64 people involved in disturbing the situation by damaging civilian vehicles, stopping vehicular traffic and harassing people by placing obstructions on roads.
The spokesman said that two incidents of arson were reported from Srinagar and Shopian. In Vehil Shopian a residential house was set on fire while as in Srinagar at Batamaloo a bike was set on fire by miscreants.
The spokesman said that the overall situation across Jammu region remained normal and peaceful.
Following the improvement in the situation curfew was relaxed from today morning (700 hours) till 1800 hours in Rajouri town during which situation remained normal, the spokesman said. CNS
Police arrests 64 more
Srinagar: According to a spokesperson of Zonal Police Headquarters, Kashmir, situation in the valley remained under control on Monday.
“There was no curfew in the valley except the areas under few police stations in Srinagar,” JKP spokesperson said in a statement issued by J&K Information department.
The spokesperson said, “increased movement of people and vehicular traffic was observed across the valley during the day.”
“During the past 24 hours, in its efforts to curb the activities of miscreants/ hooligans, police arrested 64 people involved in disturbing the situation by damaging civilian vehicles, stopping vehicular traffic and harassing people by placing obstructions on roads,” the spokesperson added.

Mobile internet remains suspended
Srinagar: The postpaid mobile service was restored in the Kashmir valley, where mobile internet of all Cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) remained suspended since July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani and two other militants were killed in an encounter in Anantnag.
The postpaid mobile service of all companies, barring BSNL, was again suspended to prevent spread of rumours on September 12, a day before Eid-ul-Azha when separatists had called for United Nations Military Observers (UNMO) office challo in support of right to self determination. Broadband and CNS internet service was also suspended, badly affecting media, professionals and students. Later internet service of BSNL and CNS was restored on September 17 evening.
The incoming facility, restored for about a week since July 9, was again suspended on pre-paid mobile companies of all companies, including BSNL on September 12.
However, incoming and outgoing facilities on post paid mobile service was restored last night following sharp reaction from people, particularly students, studying in outside the valley colleges. Only incoming facilities has been restored on pre-paid mobiles connections.
A police spokesman said that with the improvement in the situation postpaid mobile telephony was restored in the valley from last tonight.
