Seeing the entire valley of Kashmir celebrate the recent Eid-ul-Azha with great austerity and simplicity was a proud moment for all of us. It was our tribute to all those who were killed and maimed in Kashmir since July 08, 2016. So far, some 90 people have been killed and some 11000 injured in the current uprising which started with the killing of HM Commander Burhan Wani along with his two associates in an encounter at Bamdoora area of Kokernag hamlet in Kashmir.
More than 700 people including children and women have lost their vision in one eye or have been completely blinded. Today Kashmir is in a state of mourning. Everyone is dejected and anguished. Every soul is in pain and every eye in tears. There is no room for any kind of celebration is such gloomy times. These days even marriage ceremonies are solemnised with great simplicity. Most of the weddings are organised without spending lakhs on the famous Kashmiri cuisine ‘WAZWAN’ and guests are served with a simple Kashmiri tea called ‘KEHWA’. These days the traditional Kashmiri music (GHAWUN) doesn’t echo in Kashmir. The only echoes you hear today are slogans of Azadi.
Nowadays, there is no pomp and show on the arrival of babies. These days nobody is seen laughing and smiling in Kashmir. Every face and every soul is in mourning. These days’ words fall short to describe the misery of Kashmiris. A pall of gloom has descended on the entire valley of Kashmir. Given the circumstances, people should celebrate Eid-ul-Ghadeer which falls on 21st September, 2016 (Wednesday) with the same austerity and simplicity as they celebrated Eid-ul-Azha. There should be no festive meals or exchange of gifts. Extravagance of any kind should be avoided.
All Kashmiris, particularly Shia brethren, should organise special prayers for all the departed souls of the current uprising and should also pray for the fast recovery of the injured. Special congregations should be organised where Duá Nudba should be recited and a strong message should be sent out that Shias and Sunnis are always united against any oppression.
