Srinagar:Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani had told his party men to close doors for anyone who comes to meet him when reports reached Hyderpora that a few members of All Party Delegation will come to visit him.
A six-member MP delegation split in to three groups and made efforts to meet the top resistance leadership on Sunday. The six MPS are part of All Party Delegation led by Home Minister Rajnath Singh who landed in Srinagar and met pro-India parties at SKICC today.
MPs Sitaram Yechury, Sharad Yadav and D Raja reached Geelani’s Hyderpora residence-cum-office around 6PM.
Ahead of the APD’s visit, Geelani had suggested “all stake holders to stay away from meeting the members of APD”.
Almost all the Kashmir and mainland India based media had already reached Hyderpora almost one and a half hour ago. As news flashed on TV screens, people from adjoining areas came out of their homes and managed to reach Geelani’s home. They waited for almost ten minutes but no one came to open it.
“We had come to hold talks and listen to his (Geelani’s) viewpoint. But he didn’t open the door,” said Yechury, adding “Only through talks we can move forward.”
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik also refused to hold talks with the members of all-party delegation visiting Kashmir.
Earlier, the MPs said that it was their personal initiative. “Let Hurriyat reject us but we must try,” they said before setting out to meet the trio resistance leaders.
‘Mirwaiz refuses talks with Owaisi, left after greeting him’
Hurriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today refused to meet Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. The pro-Muslim politician is a part of the all-party delegation formed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Sources said Mirwaiz met Owaisi for only two minutes and seemingly turned him away.
Sources said Owaisi had reached out to Mirwaiz under personal capacity, rather than a representative of all-party delegation. However, the Mirwaiz was uninterested to entertain him.
Owaisi, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president, along with Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist), had played pivotal role in persuading Home Minister Rajnath Singh to include Hurriyat among the stakeholders who should be interacted with.
However, the Hurriyat leadership categorically refused to hold talks with the delegation citing lack of mandate given the panel, along with no definition regarding the agenda of talks. (PTK)
