Srinagar: A Bharat Sanchar Nigham Ltd. (BSNL) telecom junior engineer who has reportedly gone missing is the most wanted man as the cellphones in Pattan and adjacent areas of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district are completely defunct.
“Without Garav Ram this BSNL Exchange can’t function. This is what BSNL authorities have been telling us,” subscribers said.
They are clueless and are looking for the Junior Engineer and In charge Telephone Exchange Pattan who according to residents of Pattan is missing since July 8, the day when Hizb commander Burhan Wani was killed in South Kashmir during an encounter with the government forces.
The BSNL phone service that was exempted by government from ban has not been in operation in North Kashmir’s Pattan town as the sole responsibility to operate the service lies with Garav Ram who according to BSNL officials is absconding from past one month.
“We have filed a written complaint before Tehsildar Pattan Syed Faheem who has taken up the matter with BSNL authorities,” said a local.
“They can’t make people hostage and can’t leave us on the mercy of a single employee,” the locals said.
The staff of the Telephone Exchange Pattan said that they are helpless as the authority lies with Garav Ram. “If we restore the line, we will be blames and charged for the violation. So we prefer to maintain silence,” said an employee.
When contacted a top BSNL official said that they will contact the Engineer and will ask him to report on duty.
