Srinagar: The family members of a Srinagar youth Monday contested police claim that Irfan Fayaz Wani was killed during a stone-pelting incident in Old Srinagar City. The family members claimed that Irfan was targeted by government forces when area was peaceful and no stone-pelting was going on in Malarat area of the city.
Pertinently, 18 years old Irfan Fayaz Wani, a resident of Malik Angan Fathekadal was killed after he was allegedly hit by a tear-smoke shell in Malarata area of Srinagar city on Sunday evening. The family members told reporters that Irfan had gone to Malarata to attend the wedding function of his cousin. “The situation was normal when he left the area to proceed towards his home. Some vehicles of government forces were present in Malarata area. The situation was peaceful when he was targeted with a tear-smoke shell,” Rafiqa Banoo, the mother of the slain youth said.
“Irfan was a known stone-pelter. He was pro (Freedom) Movement. But he was targeted and killed when he was not pelting stones on the government forces,” said some of the friends of Irfan to CNS.
Irfan an auto driver by profession according to his family members was the sole bread earner of his family.
Meanwhile, a protest was staged by people in Fathekadal against the killing of Irfan Fayaz. The protesters mostly women while the killing of youth as cold blooded murder demanded an impartial probe into the incident. (CNS)
