KULGAM: Thousands of people attended a massive anti-India rally in Qaimoh area of Kulgam district today.
The speakers who addressed the rally asked people to show “steadfastness” and “honesty with the cause”.
People from adjacent areas of Qaimoh including Rampura, Yaripora, Frisal, Butchur, Bugam, Khudwani, Bogand, Kulgam reached the playground inside the premises of Higher Secondary School Qaimoh. They came by foot, on bikes and in cars as well.
A local said that it people were asked to “assemble at one stage” today for a “grand pro-freedom conference”.
“It was 100% peaceful rally,” a participant told Kashmir Life over phone from the venue of the massive rally. “I sat in the rally at 11 AM and left around 06:30 PM and at least 20 speakers addressed us.”
Addressing the grand rally the ailing Geelani stressed on unity among Kashmiris. “It is because of great sacrifice of Burhan Wani that we all are under one roof today.” “His martyrdom proved blessing in disguise.”
Quoting his conversation with slain popular Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, Geelani said, “Burhan (RA) expressed his satisfaction with the resistance leadership.”
Geelani said that Indian freedom movement witnessed only one massacre at Jallianwala Bagh. “Kashmiris have witnessed such Jallianwala Bagh countless times,” he said, “wherein innocents were killed and forces inflicted injuries and damaged our properties.”
Apparently reacting to statement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that “development will solve Kashmir problem”, Geelani said, “we don’t want jobs neither any packages nor any support from India. What we want is freedom, only freedom from occupation of India.”
The participant said that the preparation for such a huge rally was held since last evening. “Every household was asked to prepare traditional Tehri (fried rice) and people were given packed fried rice in lunch,” he said.
