SRINAGAR: The incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Thursday questioned the international community’s insensitive approach towards the Kashmiris struggle for right to self-determination saying if other nations are entitled to this right why not the disputed state of Jammu Kashmir.
In a statement issued to KNS Shah said the people of Jammu Kashmir have been struggling for their birth right since last 69 years which the international community has sidelined till date. We have sacrificed more than 5 lakh lives. Today, we want to know as to why there is such double standard regarding Kashmir. Arent we humans? The United Nations, OIC, European Union, and other world bodies are duty-bound to take cognizance of the grave situation in the Indian-occupied Kashmir where there is no value of human lives, he said.
Shah said that if the international community is true to its claims of humanity and democracy, it has to come to rescue of the oppressed people of Jammu Kashmir. The UN must conduct plebiscite in Jammu Kashmir and whatever referendum the people of this state will give would be accepted by all the stakeholders of this dispute, he said.
Though were encouraged by the support from people across the globe, but the criminal silence maintained by the world leadership is condemnable. The Indian occupational forces are ruling the roost in the state as they continue to massacre our people particularly the youth and maim our children through lethal weapons. Is our blood so cheap that it doesnt qualify the attention of world bodies and nations? Shah questioned.
The DFP chairman reiterated his appeal to the people to exhibit unity during these hard times, continue the struggle for freedom, and follow the Hurriyat programme in letter and spirit. I assure you that our struggle wont go waste and the dawn of freedom will rise very soon, Insha Allah (God Willing, he said.
Meanwhile, party general secretary Moulana Abdullah Tari while condemning the detention of Shabir Ahmad Shah said authorities created hurdles in even dispatching of medicine to the ailing pro-freedom leader. (KNS)
