TEHRAN: A top Iranian leader Thursday denounced the Indias crackdown in Kashmir as a ‘major catastrophe’, urging the Iranian government to take a strong stance against the Indian government over the ‘cruel measures’.
Ayatollah Sayed Muhammad Shahrokhi, representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei for Southeast Asian region took a swipe at the Indian government for causing what he described as a black historical catastrophe in Kashmir with its heavy crackdown against Muslims, semi official Tasnim News Agency reported.
He also deplored the inhumane and cruel crackdown of Indian police against people in the predominantly Muslim region over the past years.

Ayatollah Shahrokhi also called on the Muslim Ummah to break silence on the slaughter of Kashmir Muslims and rush to help them in whatever way possible.
The top cleric then urged the Iranian government to adopt an explicit stance on the issue, remind the New Delhi government of the consequences of its policies and warn India of the impact of such savage conducts on the relations with the regional countries.
The Leaders representative also explained that he is in contact with clergy in the Indian subcontinent, especially those in India and Bangladesh, to address the issue.
A ruthless crackdown on a mass uprising in Kashmir over last fortnight has left at least 50 people, mostly teenagers, dead and thousands injured.
