Tral: The hometown of slain Hizb commander Burhan Wani continued with community work into the third day of killing as mourners across the valley thronged his house to offer condolences with the family.
Food and water continued to be served to the mourners at various places in the town with biggest of the langars installed opposite to Burhans home. No sooner the killing of Burhan reached its hometown, locals-young and old, men and women, Muslims and Sikhs- started collecting items to serve food packets, water and juice to the people who had come to Tral catch the last glimpses of the towns greatest hero.
Tral witnessed its biggest gathering ever on Saturday with hundreds of thousands mourners participating in Burhans several funerals that were held across the day.
Mourners were offered food and water at various villages on their way to Tral, with the visitors praising the community work.
I am amazed to see kind of community work Tral put up when it mattered the most. I could see people offering food and water at various points in various villages of Tral. We all need to appreciate it, Aqib who had come all the way from Kulgam braving various police and CRPF installations told Kashmir Observer.
Sikhs and Muslims participated in community in equal measure, bringing to the fore Trals inter-community camaraderie.
We are very grateful to ours Skihs and Pandits brothers for showing the solidarity and installing food and water stalls at various places. It is Trals greatest strength. We respect each others faith, Burhans father Muzaffar Wani told a Sikh delegation that had come to offer condolences.
At the centre of this community work were youth who made sure those coming from far-off places didnt have to worry about food.
At the entrance of Burhans home, young boys can be seen insisting the visitors to have food and water.
It is our moral and religious duty to make sure people dont leave empty stomach as we see some of them coming from Baramulla, Kulgam, Islamabad, Srinagar and other places. Burhan was our greatest hero and we are honored to serve his admirers. We will keep the community work going till the mourning continues, said Shabir Ahmad one of the many youth taking lead in community work.
Even on Monday, third day into the mourning, people-in huge numbers- from nearby and far-off places made their way to Burhans home that has been buzzing with pro-freedom and pro-Burhan slogans since late Friday.
Religious and pro-freedom leaders continued addressing the people home, urging people to carry forward the noble mission of shaheed Burhan.
