Modi India’s most effective leader in a long time: US Senator McCain

LAHORE: Asserting that the fundamental principle of US diplomacy is that it wants im­provement in relations between Pakistan and India, Chairman of US Senate’s Armed Services Committee Senator John Mc­Cain asserted that it was In­dian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s co-operation that made Indo-US ties stronger.

Quoting an interview with Ary news, the Dawn reports that the US senator who recently visited Pakistan countered the im­pression that the US is moving towards India or abandoning Pakistan and maintained that the Barack Obama-led govern­ment is not taking sides.

“There is no doubt that Modi is probably the most ef­fective leader that India has had in a long time and the re­lations between US and India have improved because Modi is co-operative,” said McCain.

He further asserted that the US has no intention to sacrifice its relationship with Pakistan to benefit its rela­tionship with India, instead it believes that the good rela­tionship with Prime Minister Modi will make Washing­ton’s role in normalising ties between the two
