Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) continued with its extensive drive in the city to ensure up-to-mark sanitation and cleanliness on the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
SMC commissioner Bashir Ahmed Khan toured the city ahead of the festival and took stock of the arrangements made on the ground. He visited most of the areas of Shehri khas including Eidgah, Hazrat bal, Nawhatta, Khanyar and various other areas.
He directed SMC staff to put all men and machinery into service. On his directions, several fumigators, compactors, robots and garbage lifters are working round the clock.
During the tour Khan was accompanied with all the senior Municipal Officers.
Meanwhile Health Officer SMC Sameena Maqbool along with her health squad conducted inspection of of various markets including Hari Singh High Street, Mahraj Bazaar, Gojwra, Nawhatta, Eidgah, Zaina Kadal ,Goni Khan,LD road, jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh, Rambagh, Baghat and other areas.
During the inspection she destroyed large quantity of loose spices, expiry dates, rotten vegetables and various other daily consuming eatables including poultry and meat which was found unhygienic and in ill sanitary conditions.
A fine of fifteen thousand from the defaulters was recovered during the market checking.
Further Dr Sameena has appealed people to check the expiry date before buying and eatables and avoid open food ite. (KNS)
