SRINAGAR: Pakistan Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced late on Tuesday that it has received sufficient testimonies of the Shawal moon being sighted in the country, hence Eid will be celebrated on Wednesday.
Following suit Grand Mufti of Kashmir, Mufti Muhammad Basheer-ud-Din also announced Eid in Kashmir on Wednesday.
There were no reports of moon sighting in Kashmir, partly due to overcast sky. However sighting of moon was reported in the evening from Kargil by two influential bodies of the district. Jamiat-e-Ulama Asna Asharia and Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust.
However there was no moon sighting in India and Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari announced that as the moon could not be sighted today, Eid will be celebrated on July 7.
This will be for the first time in 30 years that Pakistan will be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with Saudi Arabia.
The announcement was made by Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman head of Pakistans Central Hilal Committee based in Lahore at around 10:09 PM (IST)
Well before the late night announcement, social media was abuzz with rumours that this year Pakistan has decided to celebrate Eid with Saudi Arabia.
