SRINAGAR:Minister for R&B Mr A R Veeri today in LA said that with a view to improve the quality of damaged roads, the Department took up macadamization programme during 2015-16 under a scheme called Improvement / upgradation of roads under Cities & Towns.
The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice given by Mr Javid Hassan Baig regarding the dilapidated condition of various roads in Barmaulla Town as well as in Baramulla Constituency.
The Minister said that during the said year, a road length of 33.90 kms has been macadamized in Baramulla Constituency which includes 20.95 kms in Baramulla Town with a Defect Liability Period (DLP) of three years.
The Minister said that during the current financial year 2016-17, a road length of 3.30 kms stand macadamized and for another 3.00 kms road length would be constructed with Water Bound Macadam (WBM) for which tenders have been invited.
Mr Veeri said that hard berms on either side of the National Highway from St.Joseph school upto Bus Stand Baramulla have been developed. He said that tenders for repairs and restoration for patch work have been invited for Mohalla Jamia road, Old Town Baramulla and Noor-Ul-Huda Market Azad Gunj Baramulla. The Minister said that improvement and upgradation of other roads of Baramulla Town are being taken-up in a phased manner under normal maintenance grants as per availability of funds.
