Srinagar: Six militants were killed in two separate gunfights with security forces in Kashmir’s Kupwara on Thursday.
The first gunbattle began at Warnow Lolab, 90 km from here, when a joint team of police and Army launched a search operation after they received reports of militants hiding in the area.
The joint party was fired upon and an encounter ensued. During the encounter, three militants were killed, the defence sources said.
Three suspected insurgents were killed in the gun battle.
Another shootout between security forces and militants broke out in Drugmulla area of Kupwara district on Thursday evening, killing three more militants.
The gunbattle began when security forces began searching the Waterkhani forests in Drugmulla after they received reports some militants hiding there.
“The exchange of firing was going on intermittently,” a police official said earlier in the day.
