SRINAGAR: Like other parts of the globe, International Yoga Day was celebrated in Srinagar with lot of enthusiasm and fanfare.
The main function was organized at Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Stadium here by the Nehru Yuva Kendra in collaboration with the Department of AYUSH, J&K, Department of Youth Services and Sports and Social Organization Art of Living, J&K branch.
Secretary Health & Medical Education, Dr. M.K. Bhandari was Chief Guest, while as Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Mrs. Arunima Sinha, STC, Art of Living (AOL) J&K branch, Deputy Director AYUSH, Dr. Ashiq Hussain, functionaries of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, J&K, Department of Youth Services & Sports and large number of doctors, students and Yoga lovers, including men and women participated in the event.
Mrs. Arunima Sinha on the occasion enriched the participants with the benefits of this ancient Indian traditional art of living. She highlighted the multiple benefits of the Yoga adding millions of people in India and abroad have adopted this art and avail its quick health benefits.
Highlighting the significance of the Yoga, Dr. Bhandari said that this Indian ancient art is not only confined in one country, but has become a global phenomenon and the day is being celebrated across 200 countries simultaneously. The Yoga is a natural philosophy for uniting the mind and body for attaining a peaceful and disease-free life. This practice is prevalent in India from ancient times and after lot of research the countries outside India also started adopting it for attaining stress-free and prosperous life. He appealed all to connect with this best natural art of living to keep away from distress and present lifestyle related ailments.
Dr. Bhandari expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants for making this global event a success.
Another mega yoga session was organized at Air Force Station (AFS), Srinagar by AOC Air Commodore Manoj Marathe & CAO Group Captain Vinod Mallik, in which over 3500 people participated. The yoga session was conducted by Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Shantmanu and Mr. Suyash, an AOL Volunteer. The participants felt greatly rejuvenated and experienced a calm state of mind.
Similarly, a Yoga camp was also organized at Village Watakuloo, Chararisharief in which AOL teacher, Mohammad Yaqoob, resident of Badipora conducted the proceedings of Yoga.
