SRINAGAR: Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development, Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, Ms. Asiea Naqash today informed that Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) has constructed a storm water drain connected with the dewatering station thus reducing the run of water in entire Bemina Colony.
The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice of Mr. Zaffar Iqbal Manhas in the Up¬per House today
The Minister said a huge chunk of land on both sides of National Highway Bye-pass Road from Bemina to Fruit Mandi is open space and green belt area. She said the area from Bemina Bye-pass to State Motor Garage is low lying, add¬ing that 28 feet patch of Housing Colony Bye-pass Road has been acquired by National Highway Authority of India for future expansion which is a part of low lying area. She said the area is prone to water ac¬cumulation especially during rainy season.
Ms. Asiea said a portion of green belt has been acquired by NHAI for expansion and for the remaining portion of Green Belt, the SDA has taken up the matter with Social Forestry De¬partment for plantation of trees.
The Minister informed that some residents of the area throw and dump household wastes in the above said low lying area which is being cleared by SMC by conducting periodic sanitation drives in the area. She said a visible change is ex¬pected after plantation of trees and development of open space/Green belt area in Bemina.
