SRINAGAR: Minster for IT and Youth Services & Sports Molvi Imran Raza Ansari Thursday reiterated that government will make sure it doesnt leave any stone unturned in its bid to tap the sports talent of the state. He said that encouraging sports talent was governments top priority.
He was speaking at an award ceremony conducted by Department of Youth Services and Sports, a statement from the media cell of the department said.
Ansari, as per the statement gave away trophies and cash prizes to 55 players who represented the state in the 2015-16 National School Games and various other individual events.
The talented duo of Absar ul Huda and Muskaan Rahi were handed over cheques worth Rs 10000 each for their cricketing brilliance that saw them win gold medal in the National School Games.
Students who pocketed silver medals were given Rs 7000 each while Bronze medalist took home Rs 5000.
Raza, as per the statement, was happy with the mass participation of students in sports activities.
Director General of Youth Services & Sports Department Jahangir Mir termed the year 2015 as the year of achievements for his department saying that J&K managed to craft space on Indias sports map. He stated that J&K took home five gold, ten silver and 23 bronze medals in various national events last year.
As per his estimates, as many as 1279 school children of J&K State participated in various National Level Games under SGFI.
He also disclosed that 330 playfields will be constructed in schools across the state during the 201617 season which will help in a long way to tap the sports talent in the schools.
Mir apprised the Minister for YS&S that a separate calendar of activities will be issued and strictly followed to carry out the sports activities under newly launched centrally sponsored scheme Khelo India in all the three regions of J&K.
A young budding cyclist Bilal Ahmed Dar who is all set to take part in the Professional Cycling Course of National Cycling Academy was also felicitated by the department.
Talented female cricketer Jasia Akhter who has participated in many National
Level events and achieved laurels for the state was also felicitated in the function.
Director School Education Kashmir Shah Faisal, JD YS&S Kashmir, DYSSO
Srinagar and other senior officers of the Department of YS&S were also present on the occasion.
Girls Higher Secondary School Kothi Bagh was the venue for the event.
