SRINAGAR:- A high level meeting was convened today under the chairmanship of Additional Commissioner Kashmir regarding revival of traditional Pashmina industry in Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by the officers of Industries, Handloom, Khadi and Village Board, Handicrafts departments, other concerned officers of various departments besides Artisans, NGOs, representatives of Kashmir Economic Alliance, Tehfuz and Kashmir Karigar Pashmina Association.
The meeting was informed that the committee has been constituted for revival of Pashmina hand spinning and weaving. The members of the committee deliberated on the matter and revival of the craft.
The committee suggested for testing facility of handmade Pashmina shawls besides increasing the capacity of the lab.
The members also suggested for discouraging of spinning and weaving of Pashmina on machines by imposing ban on this activity. They said comprehensive campaign needs to be launched regarding making customers aware of authenticity of handicraft and purity of Pashmina products.
The Additional Commissioner Kashmir heard the suggestions of the committee patiently and assured them of every possible support. He said that stern action would be taken against those found involved in producing and selling duplicate products.
