Pulwama: Kakapora town of South Kashmirs Pulwama district Monday observed complete shutdown against the random arrest of youth in the area.
All the shops, educational institutions and business establishments remained shut while transport remained off the roads.
The locals staged a protest seeking release of the eight youth. The protesters told CNS that during late hours on Sunday some Forces personnel in civvies appeared in the area and started chanting pro-freedom and pro-Islamic slogans. Four youth came out from their residences to inquire about the matter while Forces personnel apprehended them shortly after they joined them. They were interrogated and on their identification four more youth were arrested and lodged at some unknown destination, the protesters claimed.
Terming the allegations baseless, a police official said that the arrested youth are wanted stone-pelters. The detained youth are involved in stone-pelting incidents and they have been arrested for the crimes perpetuated by them, he said. (CNS)
