Srinagar: Father of Zainikote engineering student killed in CRPF firing last year on November 7, on Thursday lashed out at State Government for not taking any action against the accused paramilitary personnel even as the enquiry report of Additional DC Srinagar found them guilty and recommended action as per law.
Gowhar Nazir Dar, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar, resident of Zainkote HMT here on city outskirts, was shot at in head by the personnel of CRPFs 44 Battalion, on November 7 when he according to his family had gone to buy milk. Earlier in the day, the area had witnessed clashes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Valley and addressed a rally at SK Stadium Sonwar.
The official enquiry report had indicted CRPF of killing my son. But even after they were found guilty the accused so far have not been punished. Had it been someone else (civilian accused) he or she would have been put on trial and punished but the men in uniform in Kashmir are roaming free even as official enquires found them guilty of heinous crimes like murder, said the father of slain youth, Nazir Ahmad Dar, while speaking to news agency GNS over phone.
He said soon after the killing of his son, who was an engineering student of SSM College, the then chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed ordered a magisterial enquiry and promised justice but seven months have passed and killers have not been even arrested. At that time the chief minister in order to cool down the public anger ordered enquiry but what happened now? The enquiry report is gathering dust and those who killed my son are roaming free. Where is the justice? We dont trust this system anymore which closes its eyes towards victims of injustice, Nazir said.
Demanding capital punishment for accused CRPF men, the slain engineering students father said his son was innocent and wasnt involved in stone-pelting on forces. He had just gone to buy milk but the CRPF men shot him in his head and killed him. His loss is unbearable but we would get some relief if accused personnel are hanged to death. We demand immediate action against accused CRPF personnel, he added.
Pertinently, the enquiry report has recommended identification of the CRPF involved in the firing and their criminal prosecution under law, besides relocation of the camp so as to ensure that no such clash occurred in future, said a report last month. But the J&K Government has not initiated any action. None of the CRPF officials has been included by name in the FIR registered by Police Station Parimpora. (GNS)
