SRINAGAR: One person died while twelve others were injured in different road accidents in the valley, a police spokesperson said in a statement here.
In Awantipora, a Truck bearing registration number JK13-1770 driven by Shabir Ahmad Bhat resident of Wuyan hit a pedestrian Bashir Ahmad Ganaie son of Samad resident of Wuyan near New Colony Wuyan in the jurisdiction of Police Station Pampore, resulting in his on spot death. After completion of legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites. Awantipora police has registered a case in this regard.
In Kupwara, an Alto car bearing registration number JK09-5392 turned turtle on Kupwara-Sopore NHW near Natnussa, resulting in injuries to a pedestrian Ghulam Mohammad Lone resident of Shumnag, Kupwara. The Injured was shifted to District Hospital Kupwara for treatment.
Meanwhile, a Motorcycle bearing registration number JK09-2647 hit and injured a minor boy Hafiz Touseef resident of Chowkibal near Fire Station Chowkibal in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kralpora. The injured was shifted to District Hospital Handwara for treatment.
Kupwara police has registered cases in both the accidents.
In Handwara, a Sumo bearing registration number JK05B-3055 collided with a Load Carrier bearing registration number JK05E-4660 near Badshah Khan Sagipora, resulting in injuries to five persons. All the injured were shifted to Sub District Hospital Handwara for treatment.
Meanwhile, a Tractor bearing registration number JK098-3826 driven by Anait-ul-lah Lone resident of Gulgam collided with a Wagon-R car bearing registration number JK05B-7679 driven by Sajad Ahmad Khuroo resident of Sopore at Hirri General Road, resulting in injuries to both the drivers and three passengers boarding the Wagon-R car. All the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment.
Handwara police has registered cases in both the cases.
In the meantime, an Inter Coy Badminton Women/Mens (Single) tournament, a part of Battalion Annual Sports calendar 2016, was inaugurated by Commandant JKAP 9th Bn Shri Shailender Singh at Armed Police Complex Zewan, today.
Six female players of the various Battalions of lady contingent APC Zewan and eight male players from the companies of the battalion are participating in the said tournament. Two matches were played on first day of the tournament.
Speaking on the inaugural function, Commandant JKAP 9th Bn Shri Shailender Singh said that there is ample talent of sports among the officers and jawans of the Battalion. He said that organizing such tournaments will help them to nourish their talent, besides keeping them physically and mentally fit. Commandant of the battalion appreciated the morale of the female players and their sportsmanship.
The Inaugural function was attended by DySP Shri Mumtaz Ali Bhatti, DySP Shri Sunil Singh and DySP Ms Sandeep Kour.
