SRINAGAR: Roughed up by cops on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway this morning, Dr Ijtiba Shafi a medico registered his complaint on Facebook -why I was manhandled, only to see the narrative went viral.
The medico complained he was first thrashed on the road, his clothes were torn, and subsequently whisked away to police station for further trauma.
Today morning at around 9:00 am I was commuting towards office and was approaching towards Qamarwari Chowk. All the vehicles plying in the lane were stopped by cops posted there, and one of them snatched the Registration Certificates of various vehicle owners, the medico said.
I was astonished to see the way one of the Sub-Inspector posted there dragged one driver and started beating him ruthlessly after having a verbal altercation with him. Such was the intensity of beating that he bled from nose or mouth
The incident, he said, created extreme agony in my mind and I got deeply traumatized.
As we all were trying to figure out as to what could have been the reason of taking away our Registration Certificates, we were told that we were not supposed to be in the double lane, which everybody was following from Dr Nowsheri Clinic Lane, approximately 400 meters prior to the Qamarwari Chowk, Dr Ijtiba added.
Meanwhile, I, in a very dejected state, approached the officer concerned and enquired about the alleged crime as to why my RC was seized. He asked me to apologize for the reasons for violating traffic rules, to which I disagreed and objected in a way as why he used inhumane approach and abusive language.
Is this law enforcement or sheer Hooliganism? he asked.
The officer got irritated and slapped me and grabbed me by my collar, tore my shirt and said Mai tumhari doctari yahin utarwaunga aur tumhe aise case may bandh karunga jisse tumhari naukri bhi chali jayegi (You will be booked in a case which will make sure you will lose your job).
The medico said he was subsequently whisked away to nearby police post. I was then bundled in a police Gyspy to police station Qamarwari, where some of his police cops harassed me and used abusive language. It was only after the intervention of some friends that I was released, but not before I had to go through all this humiliation for no crime of mine.
His post went viral online with people condemning the incident. When contacted the SP west City said he was unaware of the incident. I will check it out and get back to you, the official told Kashmir Observer.
