Srinagar: Pandemonium broke out during a dance programme at a private college here, when some of the teachers objected to the dance show organised by the college and thrashed participating girl students.
Eyewitnesses said that Tahira Khanams College located at Lawaypora Srinagar had organized a dance programme and for which some of the girl students had been selected. Witnesses added that as the dance show started in the college some teachers objected to the show and thrashed the student dancers.
All hell broke loose as a teacher objecting to the show pounced upon performers. He (name withheld) ransacked the stage and even forced the girls to leave the school, said a student.
A students accused the teacher of misbehaving and alleged that he not only slapped them but also tore her scarf. It was not our fault. We were directed a month before to perform in the show. We wasted a month and even it affected our studies. Now when we tried to perform they objected and thrashed us, students said.
When contacted an official of the college said that there were some religious clerics present in the college and to avoid some untoward incident, we asked girls not to perform. Ignoring our directions, some girls appeared on the stage and tried to move their legs, an act resented by some people. No girl was slapped and only students were asked to wind up the show and leave the hall, he said. (CNS)
