Higher education caters need for progress and development of the Country, but the quality higher education matters more, it is widely seen from decades that quality of higher education in India is deteriorating and jobs with handsome salary is far beyond now, as even we are huge economy in the world. where as European and American nations have good employment rate with higher wages, that creidts their higher education standards where college pass outs start earning good livings as compared to ours where Ph.Ds are applying for peon post in public departments as recenty seen in Uttar Pradesh.
The corroded higher education system of India will have serious impact in the coming future as now none of the Institute in the India are in top 200 world ranking educational institutes, this may go beyond 400 in coming future as the higher education in the world is going up and every country trying to standardize the higher education policies with higher competition, as even our neighobors like China is proceeding very fast in research and development but at the same time india is reducing their research spending as reccently announced by HRD Ministry, this will have an effect in coming future and it will be hard for government to tackel it .
As per Indian higher education is concerned awarded degrees are doubted here by government because they seek NET/ SET to check the validity of awarded degree withn this we have more problems like reservation and poltics in educational institutes which are democratic indian issues, others are lack of quality infrastructure and staff in the Colleges/ Universities which is main hurdle in imparting the quality education.
Regarding the State of Jammu and Kashmir the youth here are talanted and sharp minded but they have worries of unemployment. Our higher education is of less quality than other states of india but our state has potential to curb this menace quickely than other parts of india. The state government must provide autonomy to state colleges and university to recurit the staff and other infrastructure with independence from state government for funding purposes , they must genrate their own revenue by increasing the fees for degree courses to high with satified higher education and job surety in domestic and international markets .
As a research scholar of University of Pune I have interacted with many students of state in past and every one is willing to pay higher fees in educational institutes but with assurance of good jobs. Paying fee is not matter of concern as it can be easily handled by finance from banks, but job assurance is mandatory . This increasing fee may genrate a good revenue and can be used by college to recruit staff and schemes for students with this infrastructure like good quality Science Labratories ,Drama Theaters, Health parks, Sports activities, must be provided so as our Institutes will progress well in National, International ranking with eradication of unemployment and worries of young people.
