SRINAGAR: The highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir, will reopen on Friday after remaining closed since December last year due to accumulation of snow.
According to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Sonamarg-Kargil-Leh road shall be thrown open for vehicular movement from April 30, 2016. He said traffic movement on this road shall be regulated as per instructions of the Transport Department J&K.
The highway was closed last December following snowfall and slipper road condition. Though the BEACON has announced to reopen the strategically important road a month earlier, but late snowfall in March has delayed the snow clearance operation.
