SRINAGAR: Two-day Shikara festival organised by the department of Tourism concluded at Nehru Park, Dal Lake, Srinagar today.
The event received enthusiastic response from the locals and tourists who witnessed the programme in large number.
Director Tourism, Kashmir, Mehmood Ahmad Shah flagged off the event which included Shikara Race, Dragon Boat Race and Canoe Polo Match.
In Shikara race event, Aijaz Ahmad Wani finished first whereas Mohammad Saleem Kaloo and Hilal Ahmad Gasi clinched second and third position respectively.
In Dragon Boat Race event, Mehandi club finished first and Pamposh club and Mehandi club-B finished second and third respectively. Mehandi club also won the Canoe Polo Match defeating Pamposh club.
During the festival various cultural programmes were held at Zabarwan park, which depicted traditional heritage and culture of Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion Director Tourism highlighted that the main aim of these activities is to promote tourism and promote local culture. He informed that tourism department mulls to organize ATV, Sledge, and snow scooter races at Gulmarg, besides organising events like bird watching, Gurez festival and Saffron festival for tourism promotion.
He informed that the department is also organizing a Zool (light) festival at Hazrat Zain-u-Din Wali [RA] Shrine in Aishmuqam Anantnag.
Deputy Director Tourism, Peerzada Zahoor Ahmad and officers of Tourism Department besides representatives of various travel agencies and Shikara union members were present on the occasion.
