Srinagar : On the eve of World TB (Tuberculosis) week, District Development Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, Thursday stressed the need of spreading awareness to eradicate the infectious lung disease, affecting one-third of the world’s population.
The DDC said need of the hour is to increase awareness about TB among people to eradicate it from Kashmir. He was speaking at a program Lets Unite to Combat TB organized jointly by District Tuberculosis Control Society Srinagar and Voluntary Health Association of India (VHAI) under a global fund supported TB project, AXSHYA.
The program was attended by Chief Medical Officer, District Tuberculosis officer, and other health officers, who spoke about the role of doctors and NGOs to eradicate the disease.
CMO Srinagar said it is the role of Doctors, NGOs to reach to people at gross-root level and aware them that TB is curable.
The coordinator of the program, who is heading JKs AXSHYA project said that the project is successfully doing its work in Kashmir with a success rate of 85 percent in 2015. (PTK)
