Srinagar: Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) welcomed the recent initiatives taken by Governor of J&K by bringing in reforms in Medical Education Gazzetted Services and bringing them at par with MCI Guidelines which is not only beneficial to the concerned doctors but will go in a long way to improve the teaching standards of our medical institutions.
In a statement issued here, DAK said they submitted that similar measures are needed to be taken about the doctors working in rural health services of Kashmir both consultants and medical officers. Its in place to mention here that caderisation of consultants and medical officers has never been done till date inspite of doctors pleading for the same over the years, it said.
The statement reads that a consultant or a medical officer in health services retires with same designation as they enter the department. There are no promotional, training opportunities for these doctors which invariably leads to doctors showing lesser interest in joining the rural health services, thus this becomes major reason for brain drain,
DAK has also welcomed the detachment of doctors from various places where they have been illegally posted for years using their political clout.
DAK has urged the authorities that there is a need for comprehensive health care policy which should include transfer policy, training policy and drug policy. (PTK)
