Srinagar: AIP Supremo Er Rashid has warned government of dire consequences if it fails to address the grave problem of garbage dumping issue at Acchan, Eidgah in Srinagar and accused that successive governments have been playing with the lives of thousands of inhabitants living in the vicinity of garbage dumping site.
Addressing a gathering at Acchan , Sadapora Eidgah, Er Rashid blamed government of breach of trust with the inhabitants and added that govt. has unilaterally withdrawn from all the agreements it had made with the representatives of the area from time to time and is now using forces to curb the voice of victims.
He said even a lay man can find how nuisance the situation is and how the foul smell and other waste material is a health hazard for the inhabitants. It is not only the population of thousands that is suffering but the famous Anchar lake , prestigious SKIMS and the valuable agriculture land have also become effected because of the problem. Successive Govts have failed to address the very humanitarian problem and the move of dumping millions of tons of garbage at Acchan, is one among the notorious plans to ruin historical Sher-e-Khaas, he said.
Er Rashid condemned use of police force on the inhabitants who have been rightly stopping Srinagar municipality officials from dumping the garbage at the site and added that inhabitants are justified to use all available options to get rid of the problem, if govt. fails to take time bound appropriate measures.
