New Delhi: Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit on instructions of his Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today visited hardline Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at a hospital here and conveyed best wishes to him.
A ‘Quran Khawani’ (recitation of Quran) was also held at the Pakistan High Commission with special prayers for Geelani’s health, Manzoor Ali Memon, Press Counsellor at the Pakistan High Commission, said.
“High Commissioner of Pakistan Mr Abdul Basit on instructions from Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif visited Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at a Delhi hospital and conveyed to him best wishes and prayers” on behalf of the Premier and the people of Pakistan, he said.
Geelani was admitted to Max Hospital, Saket, yesterday after he complained of breathlessness and his condition was last night described as stable by doctors.
Sharif had yesterday itself wished a speedy recovery for Geelani while hailing the Kashmiri separatist’s “indefatigable leadership” which he said was a “beacon of freedom” for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a message, Sharif on behalf of the people of Pakistan as well as on his own behalf “prayed for full and speedy recovery of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.”
“The Prime Minister said Syed Geelani’s indefatigable leadership is a beacon of freedom for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. We pray for his quick recovery and good health,” an official statement had said yesterday. PTI
