Srinagar: Army on Thursday claimed to have killed an infiltrator near Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Army sources said that last night at around 11:30 pm, a group of infiltrators tried to sneak into this part of Kashmir near Routa Nar opposite to Pakistan Administered Kashmir’s Attmuqam area. However, the army’s 11 KAMAW challenged the militant group and engaged them in a gunfight.
A senior army officer while confirming the incident told GNS that the exchange of fire between the two sides continued for about two hours last night.
“Today morning the army soldiers manning the Line of Control (LoC) launched the searches in the area and recovered a body along with an AK-47 rifle”, the official said, adding that the other members of the group returned back.
As the searches were underway in the area, the group of militants from the opposite side of the LoC opened heavy fire on the army resulting in injuries to two soldiers, he said.
The soldiers were immediately airlifted and were shifted to army’s 92 base hospital here in Srinagar for treatment where their condition is stated to be stable, he said.
The injured soldiers have been identified as Sepoy Krishen Kumar and Sepoy Harkes.
Intermittent gun fire could be heard in the area when the reports last came in.
