Srinagar:Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) has strongly condemned the acts of horror and barbarity surpassing the worst savagery of humans unleashed by the police and Jammu Development Authority on hapless residents of Sarore.
In a meeting held with Prof. Hameedah Nayeem in chair, KCSDS members demanded stern action against the police cops and the civilian hooligans involved in the killing of one innocent boy and causing injury to hundreds besides demolition of their make-shift huts.
KCSDS has also demanded a probe into the working of Jammu Development Authority for its selective actions against the under privileged residents while protecting and being in league with influential land mafia and political tycoons to grab thousands of kanals of state land in and around Jammu.
Condemning the police and police sponsored mob violence against the hapless Sarore residents, KCSDS terms it as part of the pattern that has been set in motion by the BJP and other right wing Hindu groups who all along have been campaigning for evacuation of Muslims from various areas in Jammu province. It is part of also a larger conspiracy of dividing people and creating psychological warfare among the various sections and communities of the state, the members added.
In the meeting, the KCSDS members observed that Sarore was among 126 depopulated villages of Jammu where almost all Muslims were either killed or forced to flee in 1947. The land and other immovable properties belonging to these Muslims were usurped either by locals or refugees from other side of LOC, the members said adding that even today the 60% of the agriculture land vests with Custodian department but is illegally occupied by locals or refugees.
Although the village falls under the Bishnah constituency, it remains under the influence of nearby Vijaypur constituency. KCSDS demands a probe into the involvement of the land mafia in Sarore that reportedly is enjoying patronage from the present MLA in setting up brick kilns and lime manufacturing units on state land. The removal of decades old habitat has been done to facilitate the land mafia to expand their activities, the members observed.
While extending deep hearted condolences, sympathies and solidarity with the affected families, KCSDS has asked the government to take speedy action against the predators from police as well as civilian hooligans and probe the heart rending happenings in Sarore to find out the nexus between various actors.
