Srinagar: To foil the programs issued by the Hurriyat (G) with regarding to the funeral prayers in absentia for the three martyred youths in the Pampore gunfight and about the JNU issue and the situations which arises thereafter, the authorities started a massive crackdown against the pro-freedom leaders and activists from Wednesday evening.
Hurriyat (G) Secretary General Shabir Ahmad Shah has been shifted to Rajbagh police station from his house detention. APHC Provincial President Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar, Personal Secretary to Chairman Peer Saifullah, Mohammad Ashraf Laya, Zameer Ahmad, Hafiz Mudasir Nadvi and dozens of other activists have been either placed under house detention or detained in different police stations while as senior pro-freedom leaders Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar, Bilal Ahmad Siddiqi, Khan Sopori, Mohammad Ramzan Khan and Molvi Bashir Ahmad have been arrested by the police on the way to Pampore to attend the funeral prayers in absentia.
On the occasion, the women leaders and activists of the Hurriyat Conference (G) have also been detained while as the Hurriyat leaders Abdul Ahad Parra, Sayed Mohammad Shafi and Abdul Rasheed Dar have somehow succeeded in reaching the Pampore and Parra sahab led the funeral prayers there.
While terming the crackdown of the state administration against the pro-freedom leaders and activists as state terrorism, Chairman Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani condemned this government action in strong words.
In a statement issued to KNS from New Delhi, Syed Ali Geelani said that we had called for a peaceful protest on Friday 26 February and a shutdown on 27, Saturday against the unjust arrest of JNU students and Kashmiri Scholar SAR Geelani and harassment of the Kashmiri students by the Delhi police. It is our democratic as well as legal right and restricting this has no justification.
The pro-freedom leader said that on the one hand India is at the war with the people who raise their voices for the rights of Kashmiri people and on the other hand the state administration had converted the Jammu & Kashmir into a police state where the law and order has been suspended.
He said that this government policy is day by day making the situations in the state explosive and the people are feeling suffocated in this situations.
Hurriyat (G) chairman cautioned that New Delhi will gain nothing from this policy and it will instead increase the political uncertainty in the state. (KNS)
