Srinagar:The outrage against the hasty implementation of National Food Security Act continued for the fifth consecutive day in Valley. Agitated protesters locked ration depots at several places while some of them set the CAPD forms on fire.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that a complete shutdown was observed against the Act in Pakharpora in Central Kashmirs Budgam district where protesters locked three ration depots asking people not to accept new ration quota which according to them is meager to feed any family member. Amid slogans against CAPD department, some youth pelted stones and enforced shutdown in the area.
Inhabitants of Hayatpora Lolab also staged protest against the Act and locked the food store of CAPD. They demanded rollback of the Act. The protesters said that the implementation of this Act is detrimental to the interests of huge chunk of the state population. They alleged state authorities have been pursuing anti-people policies. Earlier we used to get 11 kg rice per member and now we will be entitled only for 5kgs. Rice is the staple food in Kashmir and it will be injustice if this Act continues, they said.
Protest against the Act was also staged by people at Dalgate Srinagar who alleged that administration is insensitive towards the sufferings of the people. This Act will affect majority of the population. What is the fun of the Act which will leave majority high and dry and will benefit a meager population, the protesters said. (CNS)
