Srinagar: Thank You JNU, Afzal our hero were some of the slogans that youth chanted in Old Srinagar city on Friday while clashing with police. Eyewitnesses told CNS that number of youth before and after Friday prayers assembled outside Jamia Masjid and amid anti-India slogans pelted stones on Indian Forces.
The clashes between Indian police and youth continued for hours disrupted traffic in Nowhatta, Rajouri Kadal, Saraf Kadal, Gojwara and other parts of the old city.
Groups of youth carrying banners that read, Afzal is our hear and hell with Indian Constitution, JNU Thank You marched on the roads prompting police to intervene and stop them. Youth pelted stones, while police fired tear-smoke shells to disperse them. Some agitated youth even set Indian tri-colour on fire.
We are here to thank JNU students for supporting Kashmir Cause. Its really nice to see some section of people in India supporting us, said a protester.
The clashes between youth and police continued for hours.
Meanwhile, clashes and protest erupted in Nawakadal area of Srinagar city after Police detained a youth, prompting traders to close their business. Angry protesters resorted to stone-pelting, prompting police to burst tear-smoke shells on them. Locals accused that innocent youth are being picked up in the name of stone-pleting.a(CNS)
