SRINAGAR: Two labourers were killed when a slab of an under-construction building collapsed at Zaldagar area of Srinagar city on Tuesday.
The cousin brothers were engaged in work on the first floor of the store room of a local Masjid, when the mishap occurred.
Police, SDRF and fire brigade personnel rushed to spot and launched a rescue operation. The rescue teams were successful in rescuing one of the workers trapped under the debris, however, he died while on way to nearby hospital.
Both the laborers who were cousin brothers died in the mishap. They were identified as Farooq Ahmed Sheikh and Abdul Majid Sheikh both residents of Housing Colony Bemina, a police official told CNS.
An official from SDRF team told CNS that they could not launch rescue operation in team as their vehicle got trapped in traffic jam. It is unfortunate that we couldnt rescue them, courtesy mismanagement of traffic, he said. (CNS)
