Kishtwar: Kishtwar town in ChenabValley Tuesday observed a shutdown to protest the civilian killing in KashmirValley. Two civilians and a militant was killed in Kakapora area of South Kashmirs Pulwama district on Sunday when during post encounter protests, Indian troopers allegedly resorted to indiscriminate firing killing Danish Farooq of Ratnipora and Shaista Hamid of Lelhar on spot.
The call for shutdown in Kishtwar was given by grand Imam Jamia Masjid Maulana Farooq Ahmed Kitchloo. All the shops and business establishments in Muslim majority area remained shut while transport did not ply on the roads. Extra security measures were taken to maintain law and order in Kishtwar. A police official said that the day passed off peacefully.
This shutdown call was forwarded to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir especially the families of the victims. We denounce and condemn the innocent killings and demand impartial probe into these killings, Maulana Farooq Ahmed Kitchloo told CNS.
Meanwhile, to mourn these killings, Pulwama district observed a shutdown for the second consecutive day. Reports of shutdown were received from Pulwama, Kakapora and other hamlets of the district.
All commercial establishments and educational coaching institutions in these places remained closed while traffic was completely off the roads. Government offices witnessed very thin attendance of employees.
Reports said that amid heavy deployment angry youth stoned police post Kakapora while police resorted to tear-gas shelling to disperse them. The clashes between youth and police continued for hours. (CNS)
