SRINAGAR: Crediting people of border areas of the State to fight against militancy shoulder to shoulder with Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies, Director General of Police (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar has described the contribution of people of border areas as historic.
Rajendra was on a day long visit to border areas of Kupwara district today where he reviewed the security and law and order scenario of border areas. He chaired a series of meetings of jawans and officers held at Kupwara, Tangdhar and Sogam to get on spot first hand reports of various issues pertaining to border areas including the achievements on militancy front, community policing, Civic Action Programme, anti-militancy operations, besides maintaining peace and order.
Appreciating the efforts of jawans and officers of JKP and other security agencies posted in border areas in achieving better results on various fronts, Mr. Rajendra said that jawans and officers have played an important role in combating militancy and providing better policing to the people of border and far-flung areas. He asked for strengthening relations with the public and work with zeal and coordination. He said that people of these areas have expectations from the forces and we have to fulfil their expectations.
Addressing the meetings, Mr. Rajendra stressed upon jawans and officers to provide better policing to the people. He said that we have to keep strict vigil on the activities of anti-national elements who disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of these sensitive border areas and would be dealt with firmly. He asked the officers present in the meetings to utilise their resources and energies efficiently to gain confidence of the people, making them partners in the fight against crimes. He said that improvements in our working and humane attitude with the people should be focussed, despite facing hostile situation in the profession. Men in uniform remain always alert to respond to any call of duty, ignoring their personal comforts for the safety and service of others. We have to intensify surveillance technology and focus on qualitative changes, keeping in mind the advancements on security front.
Rjendra, accompanied by officers from civil administration and army, interacted with the people of border areas at these places and heard their view point with regard to functioning of police in sensitive areas. He said that JKP with other security agencies has always ensured safety and security of the people by giving supreme sacrifices of their precious lives. He said that the force is committed to ensure tangible bonds with the people by providing them better policing. Wholehearted cooperation of the people with the forces has helped in maintaining sustained peace and these relations should be strengthened at all levels to defeat ill designs of inimical elements, Rajendra maintained.
During the visit, the DGP was accompanied by IGP Kashmir Zone, SJM Gillani, DIG NKR, Mr. Garib Dass and SSP Kupwara, Mr. Ajaz Ahmed Bhat and other police officers. (CNS)
