Anantnag:- Large number of women who get admitted for deliveries at MCCH hospital have not been provided cash incentives as per the norms under various schemes envisaged by Union health ministry over a period of time.
According to attendants of pregnant women in MCCH Anantnag they are not getting cash incentives for delivery even as they are entitled for the benefits under the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakeram (JSSK) of NRHM.
Under the JSY a woman is entitled for the cash benefit of Rs 1400 for each delivery in rural area and Rs 1000 in urban area, while as under the JSSK all expenses related to delivery in public institutions are borne by the government and a woman is also entitled to free transport to the hospital as well as back to her home after 48-hours of delivery.
A resident of Matalhama Qaimoh, Makina Jan D/o Mudasir Ahmad Dar admitted at MCCH Anantnag told to Kashmir Observer that she had earlier delivered a child at the hospital, but was not given any cash incentive. Admitted for the second delivery, she however said that she has been asked to open an account, but was not hopeful that she will get the cash incentive. On my first delivery I had opened an account in a bank, but I only ran from pillar to post but didnt get the cash incentive, she said.
An MCCH official told to Kashmir Observer that Under the scheme Rs 1 crore 20 lac was provided to the hospital for utilization under different activities for the patient care. The budget was provided last year, but till now we havent received any funds from the government. The last cash incentives were released on October 07, 2015 from which at least six thousand womens cash incentives is awaited.
