ANANTNAG: A 45-year-old imam and a young woman were found dead under suspicious circumstances in separate places in Anantnag and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir today, police said.
Habibullah Malik was found dead in a field near his house at village Bragam in Dooru area of Anantnag district late this afternoon, a police officer said, adding he had injury marks on head.
He said Malik was a prayer leader in a local mosque.
Police said Malik had gone to his farmland in the village for work in the morning. Malik did not return home till afternoon, which made his family anxious.
The family went to the field to search for him, but found his body buried at the same farmland. Malik, 43, is survived by his wife and two daughters and a son, and would lead prayers at Masjid Qadeem from the last 20 years.
Soon, police rushed to the spot and took the body for post-mortem to Afzal Beigh Memorial Hospital in the area.
Sub District Magistrate, Tehsildar and Station House Officer visited the spot of the crime and seized some farming tools from there.
A police official said that an FIR has been lodged in the case and investigation has been taken up.
In another incident, the officer said, police recovered the body of a young woman from a stream in Kakapora area of Pulwama district this morning.
Abida Amin, a resident of Srinagar, had apparently met with an accident and fallen into the stream while returning from a function on her two-wheeler last evening, the officer said.
He said the woman was reportedly running a boutique.
Inquest proceedings have been initiated, the officer said.
