Srinagar: A 28-year-old youth from Sumbal area of north Kashmir Bandipora district, has been ‘arrested’ by police in Delhi while his family has sought his whereabouts.
The youth, Yasir Zahoor Malla of Shilvat village of Sumbal, has been working in private telecom company, Vodafone from last five to six years in Delhi, his father Zahoor Ahmad Malla said.
“Until January 1, he was in regular touch with us but then we didn’t receive any call from him. We had no information about his condition and last Friday on January 16, I received a call from Police Station Sumbal who informed me that my son has been arrested by police in Delhi. But gave no further details,” visibly worried Zahoor said.
He said that his son had last year in April returned home and was mentally disturbed due to his mother’s death. “He was upset and disturbed but then he returned back to Delhi on December 15 last year,” he said.
Zahoor, who is a labourer by profession, said that he has no information about his son.
“I appeal administration and police of Kashmir to kindly let me know where my son is lodged. Though I am a poor man but I will do something to reach out to my son in Delhi. All I want to know his whereabouts,” Zahoor pleaded.
He said that the Kashmiri youth are not safe in any part of India and they are arrested without any justification and then framed in false cases. “You have seen many cases particular after beef controversy how Kashmiris were targeted outside Valley,” he said.
However when contacted, a police inspector at Sumbal police station said they received no such call from Delhi and have no information about any local youth’s arrest.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir Range, SJM Gillani said that he was not aware about the arrest and instead urged to contact SP Bandipore.
SP Bandipora, Shabir Ahmad, however, said that they havent received any information from Delhi Police with regard to the arrest.
