SRINAGAR: A voluntary organization Saturday staged a silent protest against the perilous dog menace in Summer capital Srinagar.
Scores of volunteers carrying placards and banners assembled in press enclave here and urged upon the authorities particularly Srinagar Municipal Corporation to check the dog menace in the city. There are more than one lakh dogs roaming in the nook and corner of the Srinagar city. Dog terror has been terrifying everyone. Children are the worst sufferers. Recently dogs disfigured the face of a kid and it is irony that despite terror being spread by these dogs, the authorities are unmoved and no steps are being taken to check these canines, said Malik Asif Noor.
The protesters alleged that authorities are concerned about dog welfare and not in human welfare. There is no let up in dog bites. After every passing day the dog population has been increasing. If authorities fail to check dog population in the city and if it did not act within three days we will corner Divisional Commissioners office and will stage protests on daily basis there, said the peaceful protesters.
