Undoubtedly, education holds prime importance in shaping the future of any nation. It is through education only, that one realizes his potential and advances towards the path of excellence. It not only makes one intellectually blessed, but also elevates his moral standards so, as to make him a perfect citizen, who by all means, work for the upliftment of the people of nation. An educated nation clearly steers the way towards progress and prosperity, thereby making the life of its citizens worthwhile. Those nations, which realize the value of education, leave no stone unturned in making every possible effort to streamline the educational system so, as to make it more efficient and effective. Education and educational system plays a dominant role in shaping the future of its seekers.
From past few months there has been a much hullabaloo in Kashmir regarding the educational system that is being followed and is age old. Whereas, those who are in favour of it speak loads in its virtue but there are some who want a change in this pattern for which they have put forward all the flaws that exist in our educational system. Glancing at the incidences that took place in the recent past where some teachers were unable to carry out their duties meticulously, it was decided to take a screening test, which unfortunately faced such a stiff resistance, that it could have almost turned our educational system upside down. It is so ironical to see that kind of behavior from those people, in whose hands is the future of nation!!! How better it would have been if they would have willingly opted for the same to root out the deadwood among them, so, as to elevate the respect and honour of this noble profession? It speaks loud and clear as to why there needs to be a change in our present educational system so that its sanctity and holiness remains conserved. As exams determine whether a student is worthy to be promoted to the next level, likewise they too can ascertain whether a teacher is good enough that he can shoulder the responsibility of being the builder of a nation.
Furthermore, another bone of contention that is damaging our educational system is the governments decision to stop private tuition of the in-service teachers, which is being opposed by a majority. It indeed is a welcome step as the educated but unemployed youth of the state seldom get any opportunity to showcase their talent. They have to run from pillar to post to make their survival, which quite sometimes become the cause of their depression ultimately leading to some inopportune incident. The government, by this way is encouraging them to come forward to serve the society while at the same time gives them a means by which they can earn for themselves. It is a fact that they might be inexperienced in this field but expertise comes only after when one starts to work diligently in the way he has chosen. This can have dual advantage as the attendance of the students in their schools will increase owing to the fact that if there are any doubts in the lectures attended by them in their coaching centers, the same could be cleared by consulting experienced teachers in their respective schools. By this way there could be a win-win situation for both the students and the new teachers.
Education is meant to improve ones overall personality related to every field of life so that he can judge rationally and behave in a civilized way. It should never be treated as a commodity for sale and taken advantage of. Instead efforts should be made so as to make it more effective which would ultimately result in ones own success and progress. The sanctity of education should never be questioned as it is the only means by which a human being could live a dignified life owing to the fact that he really used it in a way that it was sought for. There should be a common platform where all could share their views and opinions as to how the education and educational system could be put to the best use. Since, it is a noble profession and upon it depends the future of the budding generations therefore, the need of the time is to devise efficient and more innovative ways of education which could leave a long lasting impression in the minds of students and mould their behavior to grasp more of it. Furthermore, there should be a continuous performance appraisal system for teachers which would highlight their productivity in terms of their contribution towards educating the students. There also needs to be a cordial relationship between the government, the teachers and the students so, that, as and when there is any change regarding the educational system, it should be done amicably. There should be no agitations or shakeups which could destabilize the equilibrium. Instead there should be a systematic process in which all the stakeholders should be acknowledged and then any consensus should be framed keeping in view its ramifications.
