A critical take on conventional wisdom and stereotypes

On January 6 2016, the “Directorate of Lifelong Learning” organized a counselling session for an admissions in  overseas universities. The event was organized at the University of Kashmir (Gandhi-Bawan) in which different experts from the valley and outside the valley took part in the event, but among different experts HUMAYUN QAISER was one of them. He is a renowned speaker of Jammu & Kashmir, and presently the Director Radio Kashmir. The people of Jammu & Kashmir relish his speeches & people love to listen his voice.  

To be honest I am highly impressed by the other experts but Humayun Qaiser made my day. In his speech Qaiser discussed about “Talent” in which he said that everybody is aware about the talent of Kashmiris but the Kashmiris are not aware of the talent of the people from outside Kashmir. Indeed Kashmiris are the most talented people but in actual it’s just a fiction and nothing else. Might be Kashmiris are not ready to consent it. Because we (Kashmiris) zest to take heed from every Joe who comes to Kashmir. Possibly it engorge their empty heads.

What talent demands? Talent demands a bold challenge to excel. You cannot ignore a person on the basis of his unknowing things in other words we can say an illiterate person. May be he is very much skilled than an educated person. Talent is always unbeaten, you cannot beat the talent. Beating the talent means to kill yourself. Educated person is in seek of opportunity but the talented person grabs the opportunity to demonstrate his talent everywhere. A talented person is never an optimistic instead he terminates all the walls to become a realistic.

But in our case (Kashmiris) we are talentless in every field. No wonder we have enough doctors and engineers, but despite having so many doctors and engineers, why the surgical stuffs remained inside the belly, why bridges got collapsed? If our doctors and engineers are talented enough then why such things materialized within our society? Now let’s heed towards the other educational fields; see the students obtaining positions in science why they don’t become scientists, likewise students obtaining positions in history why they don’t become historians. Despite having lakhs of graduate, post-graduate students, Ph.D. scholars, how many scientists, historians’ political scientist, and ample scholars have we produced. Now a days MBA is considered as an ample degree but do we have any best CEO, do any MBAian create any company to make his name not in the whole world, not in Asia but only in India, I don’t think so. Then what kind of talented we Kashmiris are?  Being a student of university of Kashmir I realized that the thesis of our PhD and M.Phil. students doesn’t hitch anyone’s imagination. Why Kashmiri scholars are unable to produce matchless journals likewise an IITian or Harvadian or someone else bring forth? Does it mean that our scholars incur their education merely for themselves and not for the welfare of the society?

If we are talented enough then why our teachers, parents are not able to distinguish the talent of their students and their children? If a child wants to become an architect but his parents force him to become a doctor. At the same time his parents admit him in a school where his teachers can acknowledge his behavior. By this way they may gather-up his talent, but unfortunately they did not. Shall we still call ourselves talented when we are not able to cognize the behavior of our children? Those who praise for our talent, make it sure they want our minds to be rigidify. Talent needs exposure, talent needs goading like the way plant needs water, manure and all that. If we need to flaunt our talent, we need to emerge ourselves from every dissimulation we have in our Kashmir. Talent doesn’t need degrees with high grades, it doesn’t need money, and it doesn’t need stages where our rappers exhibit their vocals. Talent explodes from the dark and give brightness to the world. Like slaves of our Prophet Mohammad S.A.W proved it, they invented; soap, needle, boats, and so forth. In modern world we have enough examples how talented people became merciful to the world, like Newton, Charles Babbage, Graham Bell, Albert Einstein and many more. These are the real talented persons not like people of Kashmiri who relish the songs of Hassan Sofis, if musicians are the real assets of the society, then our society would be one of the talented society. Neither music nor musicians will make our society. If we (Kashmiris) have talent we must prove it, we must do something for the welfare of the society.
