SRINAGAR: While refusing to comment on a query with regard to whether Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would continue its alliance with the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), PDP leader Nayeem Akhtar Wednesday said that the party had not yet begun the formal process of consultations on government formation in the state.
A decision on the issue can only be taken after the consultations get underway, Akhtar said.
He said his party will review how much it has achieved vis-à-vis fulfilling development vision of late former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Mufti Sahab had a vision for making Jammu and Kashmir a modern state. Due to his death, his vision is yet to be realised, Akhtar said. The party under the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti will need to review how much we have succeeded to fulfill Mufti Sahabs vision so far.
Akhtar said that so far the party has not held any meeting neither has any party leader met the leadership.
No formal meeting has been held yet under the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti, he said. The party will assess whether our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who has a massive mandate of the country, has taken any decisions on it.
He said that keeping in view the changing situation, the party will analyse whether our ministers can fulfil their governance agenda smoothly.
Our governance agenda were making smart cities, bring back power projects, and other development projects. We will analyse whether we can work smoothly on the governance agenda.
Asked whether the party has taken any decision to enter into a new alliance with BJP, he said PDP had not formed the government with BJP for power.
PDPs main aim is not power. We always wanted to represent people of Jammu and Kashmir to fulfil their rights and expectations which they have due to the country. Today, our party has the same stand for the people, he said.
Even after the end of the seven-day official mourning yesterday, there were no signs of any moves yesterday towards government formation in Jammu and Kashmir with the BJP saying that it was waiting for the first move by its coalition partner PDP which, however, maintained a mysterious silence.
The delay in government formation has led to speculation about a possible renegotiation on the terms and conditions for the alliance to continue between the PDP and the BJP.
Senior PDP leader and Member Parliament, Tariq Hameed Karra had on the day before suggested to party president Mehbooba Mufti to form the next government with Congress party and other secular forces to stop communal forces from spreading in Kashmir.
All the secular forces should unite and rise above their political positions to form an alliance with PDP, Karra had said. It will be a secular government.
According to Karra PDP has lost its support by tying up with a communal party.
Though it is difficult decision for Mehbooba Mufti to take but she should keep the party in her mind and take suggestion of workers as they have been facing a difficult situation after the alliance with BJP, Karra.
