Srinagar: An earthquake of 5.8 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted Jammu and Kashmir during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday at around 1:37 AM, forcing panicky residents in various areas to run out of their homes onto the streets.
Meteorological official said that the quake at 1.34 a.m. (Wednesday) had its epicentre in the Hindukush mountains in Afghanistan at a depth of 220 km,”
A MeT official said that no loss of life or damage to property was reported from anywhere in the state.
